Yet, we still dont have a machine that can do the things that computers have done in science fiction movies, such as translate everyday English into Italian, summarize texts, or make us breakfast without burning down the house. Our language, music, morals, and style changes within the course of a year, and we seem to do this collectively without voting or taking polls. In the future, we may be able to build a computer that is comparable to the human brain, but not until we truly understand one thing. Lewis Thomas talks about this in his essay, Computers. He says, It is in our collective behavior that we are most mysterious. We wont be able to construct machines like ourselves until weve understood this, and were not even close (Thomas 473). How Smoking Affects Adults Health &Well-Being

Question: How Smoking Affects Adults Health Well-Being? Answer: How Smoking Affects Adults Health Well-Being Research Question- How does smoking impact adults health well-being Research Aim- To explore the impact of smoking on the health well-being of adults Research Objectives- To identify the causes of smoking in adults To find out the effects of smoking of adults To find out views of adults on smoking cessation To find out governments role in curbing smoking issues Introduction Smoking in UK is common among a certain percentage of its population. Although smoking is permitted in UK there are the ban on smoking in certain regions like Wales, England, Northern Ireland and Scotland. The research is conducted on the how smoking affects adult health. This is mainly because as per the National Health Service or NHS, the majority of the health problems in UK are linked directly to smoking. The research evaluates the impact of smoking and the way it can be controlled (Anon, 2015). Research Background The research is mainly aimed to evaluate the impact of smoking on the well-being and health of adults in UK. Smoking causes more disability and even death in UK compared to other unavoidable aspects. Due to this, the UK government had taken initiatives to ban tobacco advertising as well as invested a lot to provide cessation services especially for those smokers who wish to quit smoking. The strict government norms were able to control the rate of smoking in UK by only 0.4% per year. Some of the problems of smoking are- Smoking causes more deaths than accidents can the deaths caused by the combination of HIV, alcohol use, accidents, illegal use of drugs, etc. It is the cause of lung cancer and related respiratory diseases like chronic bronchitis. It can also cause cardiovascular diseases like coronary heart problem and strokes. As printed in a cigarette packet, smoking causes cancer, not just in lungs but everywhere in the body (Cotton, 2011). Thus, the research mainly focuses on the way smoking affects the adult health and the way it can be controlled. The strategies that can be implemented to prevent smoking in adult people (including teens and young adults) are- The government should implement stricter bans on the tobacco industry and limit their marketing activities towards the teens and young adults. The tobacco industry should also execute their social responsibility like launching a more visible message of Tobacco causes cancer in their advertisement programs. Organizations and business institutions can also take efforts to restrain consumption of tobacco by encouraging employees to stop experimenting with tobacco smoking (Quitsmokingsupport.com, 2015). The government should take action to develop a more clear and visible warnings about ill effects of cancer on the cigarette packets. The government can also make rules to prohibit smoking in private places and levy more taxes on cigarettes and smoking products to initiate their price, which will reduce tobacco consumption. The media should also participate in making social advertisements promote anti-tobacco campaigns (Cancer.org, 2015). Literature Review The research study mainly focuses on the impact of smoking in the adult population with context to UK. The research is conducted based on the research objectives which includes the identification and findings of the effect of smoking on the adults, findings on the adults view on smoking cessation and the government roles in preventing smoking issues. With the focus on the research questions, high quality research evidence and arguments are identified, appraised, selected and synthesized. The high quality arguments and evidence can be collected using the data collection method, which could be either qualitative, quantitative, or the combination of both. The data collection method is included in the research methodology discussed below (Daff, 2011). Research Methodology The research methodology, which includes the main part of the research study, includes the theoretical perspective, research design and data collection method. 1. The theoretical perspective is aimed to evaluate the factors, which influence the smoking habits of the adults. Some of the theories applied here are- Behavioral theories include the way an individual behaves in the certain situation and due smoking as a tool to respond to that situation. For example, when a person faces stress, he may smoke a lot (Smoking and Tobacco Use, 2015). Sociological theories relate to the effect of society on a person's smoking habits. A teen watch his parent, friends and siblings smoke can imitate the habit and get addicted to it (Lewis, 2005). Physiological theories relate to the effect of nicotine on the person's psychology. Nicotine if taken even in small quantities causes a psychological change and make the person dependent o it. Thus, withdrawal of cigarettes or tobacco can cause irritation in them and make them crave for smoking even more (Fischer and Nadeau, 2011). 2. Research Design- The research design is mainly based on two types of research methods, which is qualitative and quantitative. The qualitative research design is based on the understanding of the opinions, and reasons of the problem related to an effect of smoking. The qualitative method can be used to generate hypothesis and ideas about the problem. The quantitative research design is used evaluate the ideas, views and opinions of the people who smoke or not smoke and why smoking habits cannot be stopped easily despite so many social initiatives (Jain, Sinha and Vitharana, 2011). 3. Data Collection- This is the main part of the research methodology and helped in evaluating the problem of smoking in adults. In this context, the quantitative data collection method can be used where the sampling technique can be used to carry out a survey of a selected sample. In this research proposal, ten of my friends are chosen, and a survey is conducted to evaluate their smoking habits. The method used to choose the sample is a random method where ten persons are chosen based on my prior knowledge of their smoking habits (Tobaccoinaustralia.org.au, 2015). The questions asked in the data collection methods are- Is smoking addictive? Why do they smoke? Do they consume tobacco often? What makes tobacco harmful? Does smoking affect heart and lungs? Does smoking affect personal life? What are the alternatives to replace tobacco? How the habit of smoking can be stopped? Does smoking cause environmental hazards? Why are you finding it difficult to quit smoking right now, despite knowing all this? (Hscic.gov.uk, 2015) Conclusion The research focused on the way smoking affects adults health their well-being. The research objectives are then explained. Then a country (UK) was chosen on the respect of which the research proposal was prepared. The research background evaluates the problem and the possible measures to control it. The literature review served as a basis for the research methodology. The research methodology includes the theoretical perspective, research design and data collection method. The quantitative data collection method is used to carry out the research on smoking habits of the chosen persons (Yan, 2011). References Anon, (2015).
